How does Ask Rewind work?

Click on the Rewind icon in the menu bar (upper right hand corner of your Mac) > Ask Rewind or use the shortcut + + /

When you ask a question, only the text of the most relevant moments from your past are sent to GPT-4 to generate an answer. We'll then show you the best possible answers for your query based on a search we do through the database. We use the words you used as the prompt to find the most relevant moments. If you specify a time limit in your question (last hour, today, etc.), we’ll use that time range to limit the search results.

Tips for writing a prompt

In order to get the output you desire from Ask Rewind, it's important to provide as much context as possible and continue refining your question. Here are some tips for writing an Ask Rewind prompt:

  • Use everyday language

    • Original prompt: Focus article last week

    • Better prompt: What was the article I read last week that talked about focus?

  • Specify the format of the final outcome

    • Original prompt: Write a note to Derek

    • Better prompt: Write me an intro email to send to Derek

  • Mention proper nouns (names of people or places)

    • Original prompt: When did I first meet Brett?

    • Better prompt: When did I first meet Brett Bejcek in New York City?

  • Mention website names, URLs, or apps

    • Original prompt: What were the action items from the call?

    • Better prompt: What were the action items from the Tech Talk we had on Zoom this past Monday?

  • Be as specific as possible with a time frame

    • Original prompt: What did I do yesterday?

    • Better prompt: What did I do yesterday afternoon between 3-5pm?

  • Try asking specifically for action items

    • Original prompt: Based on my call from 9am-10am, what do I need to do?

    • Better prompt: Based on my call from 9am-10am, write 5 action items for me.
